Truck & Bus Manufacturer Reduced Costly Repairs with mPro400 Global Controller

A global truck and bus manufacturer, operating on the East Coast, faced a significant challenge related to assembly errors specifically associated with O-ring installation. This critical step, preceding final tightening, relied on manual operator intervention, making it prone to human errors and frequent omissions of O-ring placement. As a consequence, the parts had to be disassembled for rework after final assembly, which proved to be a time-consuming process and significantly impacted overall plant productivity.
The manufacturer recognized the need for a streamlined solution to detect missing O-rings during the assembly process, enabling timely intervention without causing disruptions to productivity. To address this challenge, they implemented a new strategy incorporating Cleco's mPro400GCD Global Controller. This controller facilitated the detection of changes in the tightening signature, often referred to as "trace," and automatically halted the process before reaching the final torque. The controller would provide a "NOK" (not OK) result, alerting the operator just in time to rectify the issue.
By incorporating this solution, the manufacturer effectively eliminated operator error as a manufacturing risk, mitigating the shipment of incomplete components that could result in potential warranty repairs and compromise customer satisfaction.
